From this brush painting,you can see both sides of Singapore river with high-rise and modern buildings.
The CBD area of Singapore plays an important role linking the busy transport between the northern and southern urban areas.In front of you is the Victorial Memorial theatre and the Asian Civilization Museum.
The buildings located at the southern bank of the river areFullerton Building(now Fullerton Hotel,before it was the General Post Office in Singapore). Moving further away are Clifford Pier and UOB Bank and Container Wharf.
The composition of this painting is to show the grand and significant of the CBD area. General speaking,the buildings in urban area will be painted like a “concrete forest”. B ut Dr Tan painted it in an artistic waythrough the strength of brush strokes and the shape of building.
How to show the luxuriousand green plants in this painting? The artist simply painted it skillfully with some patches of black ink and few branches stretched up the top of the trees. Two things to be shown in this painting : the progress and prosperous of the CBD area as well as the beautiful garden city.
